BLOG TOUR: Nico by J.B. Hartnett

When I was a boy, I met a girl.

She didn’t know it then, but…

She changed me.

Now…..I am a man.

A man who is broken by the stories of the women who come to me.

They are my birds with broken wings.

I help them heal, help them to make them strong, so they can fly free.

Lark changed me. Loved Me. Made Me Strong.

With her, I am free.

I write…
To the girl of the past.
To the girl of my present.
And, the girl of my future.

Dear Dish….

**Although Nico is considered part of The Leaves Series, it can be read as a stand alone**

Ok, so anyone who knows me, knows that I am a HUGE fan of J.B. Harnett. I was hooked with Inky and then Cole. And I must admit I was really intrigued with where Julie was going to go with Nico. We had only seen a glimpse of him in Inky's story as the guy who did her Tree and Leaf tattoos. Let me just tell you right now, this book is full of emotion, every kind you can think of and hope there would be in a book. Inky and Cole were amazing books but Nico blew me away.

Nico has the world on his shoulders. He takes care of what he calls his "birds" the women who have gone to hell and back and with Nico's help, finds a way to bury the pain and emotion in the past. Some he sees only once, other's he continues a long relationship with.

Nico grew up in a family that was always helping others. His mom and pop were always showing compassion and love to those around them. So why wouldn't Nico have that same compassion for those around him too. The only problem is that Nico has no outlet, no one to share in the pain that he takes on from his birds. After years of whoring around and trying to get lost in others and a life changing experience Nico is ready to open himself up.

Lark has been a lost soul of her own. With her parents dying when she was young, an overprotective "sister" and an ex-boyfriend who told her she was nothing. Lark has issues with trusting those around her. That is until she meets Nico. There is this connection that neither of them can deny. They both have pasts that need to be cleared but maybe together they can find what they have both been searching for.

This book pulled me in from the very beginning and I just could not put it down. Julie has a way of storytelling that is sarcastic and profound all in one. There is humor and comic relief in Nico's friends Teensy and Zack and his interaction with them, so its not all heavy. But there is a lot going on in this book that will make your heart ache and wonder how someone could survive. It's a beautiful love story about survival and finding your soul mate, the one you were meant for. 5 soaring stars for Nico. I miss him already.

“Nico…” she begged.

“What is it, babe?” In that moment, I was a tease. I was going to make sure I took this bad fuckin’ day and turn it into something she would remember happily.

“You know what I want,” she moaned.

“Don’t move.” I walked away, into the kitchen and dug into one of the bags. The store fuckin’ got me, what could I say. I was gonna barbeque in style next summer. But one thing my kitchen needed was a new spatula. Nice rubber handle, strong, and wide, flat, heatproof silicon…perfect for what I wanted. I came back and rubbed over her left cheek, pulled away for that perfect first contact and…

Thwack!

Julie is a Southern California native, a fan of a really good story (preferably romance with a happily ever after), really good pie (preferably pumpkin) and copious amounts of coffee (preferably Folgers).
She has always enjoyed writing and at one time thought she could be a singer songwriter...the 'writer' part is the one that stuck.
Julie is obsessed with pi...the equation(and the food). She's allergic to cats and cantaloupe and hates mushrooms...so if you ever want to give her a gift, those are out for sure. She currently lives with her own romance hero husband and two boys in Melbourne, Australia.
