Disastrous by E.L. Montes

I am thrilled to have Emmy Montes, author of Disastrous, joining us today on my blog. Disastrous, which is Emmy’s debut novel, was released on October 23, 2012 and over the past 2 ½ months, it has become one of the most talked about books of the year. And it doesn’t hurt that it also features one of the sexiest Fictional Boyfriends of 2012 (at least in my option). With a 4 ½ star rating on both GoodReads and Amazon.com, over 2500 ratings and 500 reviews, if you have not read this book it needs to be added to your TBR lists #1 spot now! Welcome Emmy. I am such a big fan of yours and am elated that you are here!

Hi Becca! Thank you so much for the kind words and support! I’m happy to be here!

E.L. Montes
You work full-time as a Paralegal, so when did you figure out you wanted to be a writer?

I always wanted to write, since I fell in love with books as child. Growing up I either wanted to be a journalist or a lawyer! Throughout the years I wrote stories here and there, never fully completing one. When I was searching for colleges, I noticed that the newspaper and magazine industry was dropping, so I decided on a degree in Legal Studies. I loved it and still do, but I felt something was missing. So after finishing school I focused more on writing.

How did you come up with the concept of Disastrous and did it take you a long time to write it?

While working on another story, I was sitting on my couch watching TV with my husband, and I kept thinking, “Dammit I want to write this story but it’s not working for me.” Then a commercial came up with a very old movie (which involves Marcus’ second life) and my husband said “You know they’re due for another movie like this.” I agreed and started thinking can you imagine if you fell in love with a guy who secretly lives this life style. Marcus DeLuca is very different from “real life” men that live this life style, but I wanted it that way.

It took me 3 months to write Disastrous. An additional 2 months for rewrites and edits.

What is the hardest part of writing for you?

Ugh, being in the mood. I have to be in the mood to write, to get into the characters head if not it’ll just feel force to me… so as much as I want to be one of those authors that write every single day, I can’t because my mind doesn’t work that way. It’s difficult to explain, every writer has their own method, and mine is to put me in the mood, it usually works after listening to music.

What projects are you currently working on?

UGH!! *ripping hair apart* So, you know how above I said I have to be in the “mood” well, if other characters are poking in my brain, I HAVE to write them down if NOT it will distract me from focusing on my current project. So, with that said, I’m currently working not only on ‘Cautious’ but also on a standalone. I feel so passionate about this stand alone; I cannot stop thinking about the characters, about the plot, and specific scenes. The last time I felt like this was when I wrote Disastrous, but these two main characters are SO different than Marcus and Mia. I’m not ready to share anything just yet, I do have a title, character names, ideas, and a few chapters written, but I’m hoping to share what I’m working on by the summer and maybe a release by the end of the year.

How do you get your ideas for your characters? Do you envision a certain "real" person as the character before you actually "create" him/her for the story?

NO! When I wrote Disastrous, I had this picture in my head of how I envisioned Marcus and Mia, but couldn’t find the right “real” person. No one was good enough! LOL. I guess in my mind since I created them, I see them as my “babies” and no one is good enough. When friends sent me pictures of certain models/actors I quickly shot them down, they said I was too “picky” LOL.

How do you choose the names of your characters?

Marcus and Mia for some reason popped instantly in my head, it just clicked and worked perfectly! And so did the other characters in ‘Disastrous.’ For some reason I don’t have trouble with first names, but more issues with coming up with last names. For my standalone the names popped instantly in my head but the last names I had trouble with. I guess I have issues with last names. LOL.

Are you excited about the Boston Author Event coming up March 16th?

OMG I’m SUPER excited about Boston! This will be my first signing, and I’m honored to be a part of it surrounded by so many wonderful and talented authors. I can’t wait to meet my fans as well! I think I’ll probably cry! (I’m super emotional). LOL.

What book are you reading now?

I use to read ALL the time but with writing, working full time, and interacting with readers I haven’t had the chance, and when I do it takes me a long time to read it. I just finished ‘Collide’ by Gail McHugh (I LOVED it, by the way) and the next two on my list is ‘The Dark Light’ by S.L. Jennings and ‘Running on Empty’ by L.B. Simmons. I’m looking forward to these two.

Ok, so this is the burning question among my friends and I. It seem that every heroin (and a few guys too) are always holding their breath? They seem to all have this problem. You would think that they would pass out from holding their breath so much!! As an author, maybe you can give us the inside scoop!  I mean seriously we take bets on how far into a book they will be exhaling the breath they were holding!

LMAO! I’ll make sure that the next time one of my characters “hold their breath” that they’ll exhale sooner than usual. LMAO! ;)

Well thank you Emmy for stopping by today. We are certainly looking forward to the continuing story of Marcus and Mia in Cautious. Below is a excerpt from Cautious.

Please note this is an unedited version. It may change or be deleted.

Also, the below scene contains bad language if you’re easily offended…...
Please do not read. Thank you! ♥

Below is the first teaser & snippet to Cautious (D2).

TEASER ONE of Cautious (D2): Mia’s POV

Marcus pressed his firm body against mine, and with a straight face, he stared at me with intense eyes.

"Get away from me." I breathed. After walking into his office and finding her in there, I was infuriated.

"Stop it.” He snarled. “You know I only want you." He reached his hand out and ran his fingers through my hair. "Why did you come here?" He asked in his low, deep tone.

"Can I not visit my boyfriend at his place of work? Or are you upset I might’ve interrupted something between the two of you?" My heart skipped and began to pick up pace. I swallowed hard as I watched his eyes deepen with anger and lust. He moved in, forcing me to sit on the edge of the desk. My throat turned dry, so I licked my lips and tried to swallow again.

"Why do you insist that I want every fuckin’ girl that walks in my direction? Is it not enough that I'm with you almost every night? Is it not enough that I tell you I love you every fuckin’ day?" His brows furrowed, and then he balled a fist into my hair, gently tugging my head back.

He leaned in and brought his lips against the side of my face. With his other hand, he trailed it over my breast, teasing my harden nipples. The thin fabric of my t-shirt was the only thing blocking me from feeling his bare touch. He ran his hand up my chest and towards my collar bone. Then very gently he tightened a grip around my throat. My breathing hitched and I was instantly aroused. "You came here for a reason, Mia. Tell me, what do you want?" He growled as he nipped on my earlobe. My insides tightened, and my secret place ached for his attention. My breast moved in and out as I began to pant.

It's true I came here for one reason: I couldn't stop thinking of how he teased me over the phone last night, and I wanted him more than ever. "I came here for you." My voice was barely a whisper, more of a whimper.

"What do you want from me?" His face reached around mine, and he caught my bottom lip between his teeth. "What do you want me to do?" His voice was deep and erotic. The way he spoke in that sensual tone sent me over the edge.

"You know what I want, Marcus." I gripped the edge the wooden desk to keep from melting to the ground.

He tightened the firm fingers wrapped around my neck. His lips against mine, I felt the warmth of his sweet breath when he spoke again, "Do you want me to fuck you, Mia? or make love to you?"
Oh. My. God. Every time he talks to me with so much control and passion, I feel possessed by him.
My mouth opened with anticipation, and my breathing became evidently needy. I want him now. "I want you to fuck me then very slowly make long, sweet love to me."

He flashed that crooked devilish smile that makes me squirm every time. 'That's my girl." He whispered, and his lips crushed into mine.

SNIPPET For you Jeremy Lovers (again unedited version and might change.)

Jeremy and Megan hopped into the back seat of Marcus’ car as I slid into the front passenger seat right beside Marcus. I was thrilled that Marcus gave this a shot. It’s good for us to hang out with other people rather than just the two of us. It has to be unhealthy that we are always glued to one another. We needed a change of scenery, so going out bowling and having a few drinks with just the four of us would be fun!

As soon as Marcus turned the car on, the loud pounding music of Taylor Swift’s song “We Are Never Getting Back Together” hit the speakers. Marcus shook his head and reached to change the station, but we both froze when we heard a loud, high-pitched voice singing along with the song. We turned and all eyes were on Jeremy.

Jeremy’s eyes were closed, his head his swaying side to side, feeling the groove of the song. Marcus and I glanced at each other mortified, and then returned our stare back to Jeremy. Megan was giggling in the back as she watched him as well. Jeremy, not knowing eyes were on him, continued to sing in a high-pitched tone. “We are never ever, ever, getting back together, we are never ever, ever, getting back together, you go talk to your friends, talk to my friends talk to me, but we are never ever, ever, ever, getting back together!”

Jeremy eyes shot open, and he stopped howling in mid song. His brows bunched together as he studied all the eyes on him. “What? Taylor Swift is hot!”
