Twenty-five-year-old Sgt. Gray Phillips is at a crossroads in his life: stay in the Marine Corps or get out and learn to be a civilian? He’s got forty-five days of leave to make up his mind but the people in his life aren’t making the decision any easier. His dad wants him to get out; his grandfather wants him to stay in. And his growing feelings for Sam Anderson are wreaking havoc with his heart…and his mind. He believes relationships get ruined when a Marine goes on deployment. So now he’s got an even harder decision to make: take a chance on Sam or leave love behind and give his all to the Marines.
Twenty-two year old Samantha Anderson lost her husband to an IED in Afghanistan just two months after their vows. Two years later, Sam is full of regrets—that she didn't move with her husband to Alaska; that she allowed her friends to drift away; that she hasn't taken many chances in life. Now, she's met Gray and taking a risk on this Marine could be her one opportunity to feel alive and in love again. But how can she risk her heart on another military man who could share the same tragic fate as her husband?

RELEASE DATE: January 20th
Hi guys! Thanks for sitting down with me today. I really
appreciate you taking the time to talk. Can we start off with each of you telling us a little about
yourselves? How about ladies first.
Samantha: Thanks for inviting us Becca. Um, so I’m, ah,
twenty-three and attending FIDM-that’s the Fashion Institute of Design and
Merchandising, here at San Diego. My
roommate is Karen who runs a small coffee house near our apartment in
Oceanside. This is my fiancé, Gray.*grabs Gray's hand and he brings it up to kiss her wrist*
Gray: Hey Becca.
You’re sweet to invite us over for a chat. A little about myself? I guess the
number one thing you should know is that Sam is the best thing that happened to
me and I’m pretty sure that my entire existence leading up to that point was
just all in preparation.
Sam: Thanks for making me look bad. I love you too you know.
Gray: I’m just trying to beat you to the punch. You’re
always making the BG first (that’s big gesture Becca).
Awe that's so sweet. Well, the two of you met up in a whirlwind. Both of you a
little gun shy, even though Sam you said that when you first made eye contact
with Gray, there seemed to be something so familiar with him. What so you think
that connection was?
Samantha: It was just
the way that he held himself. He was so sure and when he walked, the crowd
parted. He looked so knowingly at me, as if we had met somewhere. I guess maybe I’d been waiting for him and when
he appeared my heart jumped.
Gray were you a little surprised when Sam showed up at Camp Pendleton?
Gray: Ha! A little? That’s like asking if it gets a little
hot in the desert. My heart probably
stopped when I saw her outside the main gate at Pendleton. I’d have risked a
dishonorable just to get to her at that point.
Sam what did you think of your trip to the yarn store and
finding out Gray’s secret?
Samantha: If I hadn’t loved Gray before I would have fell in
love in that second because no one had ever done anything like that. And later,
when he knitted a few rows in front of me, his brow furrowed in intense
concentration, it made me melt inside.
He’s a keeper.
Or so let’s do a few fun get to know you – no pressure
questions. Each of you answer.
Favorite Physical Attribute of yours on each other?
Samantha: Gray’s hands. *Sam reaches over to hold Grays hand* I love them. They’re big and strong
and so capable. I feel like he could do anything with them.
*Gray chuckling low* I love everything about Sam from her
cute toes that she always seems to have painted these days to her forehead and
every rise and dip in between.
Favorite Personality Trait you see in each other?
Gray: Sam’s spirit. She’s always willing to try something
different, to take on a new challenge. She’s adventurous everywhere, if you
know what I mean.*Gray lets out a low laugh as Sam swats his arm*
Sam: Gray’s got a way with words so I guess I love his
imagination.
Your top bucket list item?
Sam: Paragliding! I think that looks like a lot of fun. And
plus, I don’t have to worry about my chute cord tearing away.
*Gray groans.* “No way. My heart can’t take it. I guess my top
bucket list item isn’t something I can share with all of your readers Becca but
let’s just say it includes Sam, her red polka dotted dress, and a major
elevation.”
Sam: Gray, really?
Gray: I didn’t say what I wanted to do. Like I could have told her –*Gray whispers
something to Sam which causes her to blush furiously and shift in her
seat*. So, Becca, I think we got to
leave. *I hold up my finger - begging with my eyes for one more question* Only one more question? Yea, we can do that. *Gray winks at me then turns his attention back to Sam...It's starting to get hot in here *
The thing you absolutely can’t live without?
Gray: Can’t live without Sam. Don’t even want to try to
think about it.
*Gray grabs Sam's hand, stands up and starts dragging her towards the door. Sam looks back at me giggling, mouths "Sorry" and sends a small wave goodbye as they disappear out the door. I yell out to them before the door closes*
Thanks again for stopping by!!
I can not get enough of this
series! Each book just gets better and better. And let me just
say...GRAYSON is steaming hot! *give me a second while I finish fanning
myself* Ok no...*fanning again* I'm good. :)
Gray Philips is at a crossroad. Does he stay in the Marines and continue on his path to retiring with the military, carrying on his family's tradition. Or is there more that he is missing in life, by staying in and giving up the one thing he wants...love. After be burned by his ex-girlfriend, he need to take a leave and try to figure this all out, before time runs out. What he wasn't expecting was Sam Anderson to take his heart and run with it.
Sam Anderson is stuck, not knowing how to move forward. He husband was killed leaving her a widow at 20. She has regrets and she certainly wasn't looking for another military guy to fill the void. But sometimes life has a different path for us.
I absolutely could not put this book down. We met Gray back in Unspoken and I was so happy when I heard Jen was writing a story for him. This book is hot hot hot and sweet and at moments leaves you heartbroken and that is what makes this an amazing book. We get to see all the usual's from the Woodland Series and I just loved the chemistry between Sam and Gray. The push and pull and romance. Sigh. Definite 5 stars from me. If you haven't picked up this series - its a must!
