Reference Desk - The Reviews

Review: March 12, 2013 by Debi

This book has RUINED me!!! I LOVED IT!!! 4.5 stars!!

The Dark Prince by S.L. Jennings carries on where Dark Light left off. Crafted to provide you with one surprise after another. There are new characters added to the book and you really get the chance to meet Dorian's family. Gabriella and Dorian's relationship grows and gets strained and turns upside down!

Gabi's ascension is fast coming, She see's changes and so do those around her. Will she chose light or dark? Gabi weighs her options for what will be the rest of her life. Will Chris and Donna have any effect on her decision?

I can say without a doubt that Dorian has her under his spell and I can say I am there too! I can't wait until the last book in the series comes out! Check out the series, you will be glad you did!

Four stars for this fabulous this debut by Tasha Ivey! Laura is unlucky in love. She just can't seem to make the right connect, always falling for the wrong guy and the right time. After another failed relationship Laura leaves Baltimore to head back home to Alabama. Along the way she decides to stop by her Nana's house in North Carolina. Almost to her destination, she gets a flat tire but is soon rescued by a gardener for the house where she broke down. The only thing is the gardener is not really a gardener but Brooks Tucker, a wealthy son of an Oil Tycoon. Brooks is in NC with Jacqueline, his "fiance", and not by choice. He has been forced into a marriage in order for his dad to overtake her family's business. Jacqueline is cold and heartless and could careless about Brooks and his feelings.

Laura finds herself running into Brooks on more than one occasion and even those they have an attraction, they decide to just be friends. I really can't say too much more without giving the book away. But I loved this book. Laura uses her mother's old diary in search of her own love making this a heartwarming, lovable book. There is laughable moments, moments of heartache and redemption. Making this a well rounded book in my opinion. The book also wraps up nicely not leaving you hanging (although I hear there may be a book 2 in the series) Full of characters that hook you from the start (including Brooks best friend Will and his sister Ashton) it is a book that will not leave you disappointed! Go buy this book!

Review: March 9, 2013 by Becca
RELEASE DATE: March 11, 2013

I was thrilled when R.K. Lilley sent Lana to me. I adored the Up In The Air Series and Lana although she was a small part of the series, I loved her from the start.
In the Up In The Air Series we find out that Lana has been head over heels for Akira, a family friend, while growing up  in Hawaii. Lana fled the island 8 years earlier after an embarrassing encounter with Akira, leaving her heart shattered and not ever wanting to confront him again. Her family business brings Lana back to the home that she loves but never feels she can return to permanently  Within 12 hours of being home, who does she run into? You guessed it. And just like before, there is an instant connection and electric pull. This book is a novella, so I don't want to give away what happens. I can guarantee that it is HOT, EROTIC and FULL OF EMOTION. And best of all, we get to see our favorite characters from the Up In The Air Series.

R.K. Lilley hit another home-run with Lana!

Natalie Carmichael is a 19 year old fresh out of high school. Who would have thought that one of the happiest times in her life could turn devastating in an instant. That is all it took when the love of her life, or so she thought, Bryson was caught sleeping with Sara a beauty contest reject. Trying to move on with her life, Nat picks up and moves to Florida to be with one of her best friends. Her first day there she runs into Nolan, a tall handsome stranger who she cant shake out of her system.

Hard to Resist is the story of betrayal, love lost and then found. Will it be enough for Natalie? Can she move on? Can she begin again? This story has you yearning for more for Natalie. I can not wait for the continuation of the series to see what it holds for her. Will it be happiness?

I would give this book 3.5 stars. Personally I felt like Nat was too young to experience the things she does in the book. Although at times in the book I did have the butterflies but then there were other times I was turned off by the high school drama that was included. I think had some of the main characters in the book been older and a little better developed I would have felt differently. By the end of the book, I did finally get wrapped up in what was going on with Natalie and Nolan. I will have Hard to Hold on to on my to be read list.

Review: March 5th, 2013  by Debi

After reading Dark Light, Book 1 in the Dark Light series by SL Jennings, I was hooked! Not normally a fan of the paranormal books I thought I would give this one a shot. It certainly is not another book about vampires! What it IS, is a book about love, lots of carnal sex and magic!
It begins as Gabriella Winters turns 20 and is finally given answers to her past. As an adopted child, Gabi has always wondered about her birth parents. Who she was and where she came from. What she was not expecting was the answers to these questions. As the story develops we learn more about Gabi as well as her adoptive family and even more about her past and her very soon to be future.
This future all changes when she lays eyes on one sexy, ice blue eyed Dorian Skotos. He is certainly a man of mystery and intrigue and full of sex appeal. Why has he been placed in her path and what does he have to do with it all? Where does he fit in her struggle with light and dark. Does he?
Jennings does a fantastic job of character development and brings your mind to a place that you could actually see yourself in the story with Gabi and Dorian.
I was completely hooked to Dark Light and will be VERY impatiently waiting for Dark Prince, Book 2 in the Dark Light series! I CERTAINLY give this book 4.5 stars!!
