Beautiful Oblivion by Jamie McGuire

The Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster phenomenon continues in the first heart-pounding new adult romance in The Maddox Brothers series.

Fiercely independent Camille "Cami" Camlin gladly moved on from her childhood before it was over. She has held down a job since before she could drive, and moved into her own apartment after her freshman year of college. Now tending bar at The Red Door, Cami doesn’t have time for much else besides work and classes, until a trip to see her boyfriend is cancelled, leaving her with a first weekend off in almost a year.

Trenton Maddox was the king of Eastern State University, dating co-eds before he even graduated high school. His friends wanted to be him, and women wanted to tame him, but after a tragic accident turned his world upside down, Trenton leaves campus to come to grips with the crushing guilt.

Eighteen months later, Trenton is living at home with his widower father, and works full-time at a local tattoo parlor to help with the bills. Just when he thinks his life is returning to normal, he notices Cami sitting alone at a table at The Red.

As the baby sister of four rowdy brothers, Cami believes she’ll have no problem keeping her new friendship with Trenton Maddox strictly platonic. But when a Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever—even if she is the only reason their already broken family could fall apart.

In the first installment of the Maddox Brothers books, readers can experience the rush of reading Beautiful Disaster for the first time, all over again.

Those Maddox brother just may be the end of me (lol). Trent certainly is just as charming as his younger brother Travis and dare I say...I may love him even more. But hey, who's to say that I won't feel the same about the rest of the boys as their stories make it into our hands.

What I loved about this book is it takes place the same time as Travis and Abby's story is taking place, so we get a little behind the scenes look at what Travis was doing while being miserable without Abby during their breakup moments.

Trent is charming, sarcastic, sexy and heart-breathtakingly lovable. Trent has been in love with Cami- forever. But there is a HUGE secret that she refuses to share with Trent on why she can't go out with him. So he takes the next best route...friendship. The only problem is that things get complicated. And that you don't know what this big secret is. I had so many scenarios going thru my head. What could it be? All we know is that is has to do with her (at the beginning) boyfriend and soon to be ex.

My heart bled for Trent. Cami was a bit annoying at times, but I think that was just because I wanted to know her secret, NOW!! Beautiful Oblivion was an all night page turner for me. This book does end in a HEA but let me just tell you - once the secret was revealed...I was FLOORED!!! It left me a little speechless and now leaves me on pins and needles for what comes next! 4.5 STARS

Cardeno C. - CC to friends - is a hopeless romantic who wants to add a lot of happiness and a few "awwws" into a reader's day. Writing is a nice break from real life as a corporate type and volunteer work with gay rights organizations. Cardeno's stories range from sweet to intense, contemporary to paranormal, long to short, but they always include strong relationships and walks into the happily-ever-after sunset.

Cardeno's Home, Family, and Mates series have received awards from Love Romances and More Golden Roses, Rainbow Awards, the Goodreads M/Romance Group, and various reviewers. But even more special to CC are heartfelt reactions from readers, like, "You bring joy and love and make it part of the every day."

I’m Kieran Scott…I don’t disagree that therapy would be beneficial for a guy like me. However, when I saw the beautiful, gray-eyed therapist I was supposed to spill my thoughts too in my first session…well, let’s just say her mouth should be used for one thing…and it wasn’t talkin’. Ms. Keep it Professional thought she had control of these sessions. She didn't know who she was dealing with. I would turn the tables faster than she could spell F-*-C-K-M-E!

Doc’s mouth closed and, already resembling that wet puppy, her eyes followed suit. Hurt washed over her features and if I could have punched myself I would have.

“I didn’t mean…” She left as quickly as she’d come, dashing back into the bar.

“Dude,” I said to Todd. “I’m sorry. I called for you,” Todd explained. “She’s parked out front, K.” Wink nodded.
“Go through the gate. That would be quicker.” So I did, setting off the security alarm, which bellowed out in the night. When I rounded the corner in the rain, she was digging in her very well-worn-out jeans. Water surged down the street, rushing over her feet and as she clicked the key fob unlocking her car, one of her flip-flops got caught in the flow of water. In my leather boots, I stepped off the curb and grabbed it.

Her eyes found me standing ankle deep in the water. I waded toward her as water seeped into my boots. “Cinderella?” I asked, holding up the flip-flop. The rain streaked her face, or was it tears? “It’s a flip-flop, not a glass slipper. Life’s not a fairy tale, Mr. Scott.”

“It sure could be. And we’re back to that Mr. Scott shit, eh? Even after I took you home the other night?” She snatched the flip-flop from me and slid it back on her foot. “Nothing happened that night. Nothing will ever happen. I’m not really a sex-behind-the-bar kind of gal,” she said, opening her car door. I slammed it shut before she could climb in. “Nothing happened back there by the way. Why did you come here?” “I’m your therapist, Mr. Scott. You didn’t show for your appointment and I was worried.”

“Bullshit!” I shouted, batting the rain from my lashes. Her finger jabbed in front of my face as if I were two. “I could request a warrant for you this minute.” Her hair was sopping wet and her face looked like a raccoon. The hottest damn raccoon I’d ever seen.

“Let’s do therapy right now,” I suggested.

“Mr. Scott. That would be highly…” I shoved her up against the car and pressed my body to hers. I hovered over her by a foot, and a part of me wanted to intimidate her. “Enough of the Mr. Scott shit,” I said. Her mouth slightly parted as her eyes hooded. As disgusted as she was by me, I turned her on, I think. I wanted to turn her on. I wanted to taste those full lips. I wanted to know if her tongue was shy or aggressive.

And I wanted to see her eyes roll back as I buried myself inside her. “Say my name,” I ordered. The lashes around her eyes were fanned out beautifully and the gray of her eyes flickered back and forth between my eyes and my mouth. “Say it!” I demanded through clenched teeth. “Kieran,” she whispered. I was harder now than when I was inches from Nikki’s mouth. “Say it again.” “Kieran…”

This time it sounded more like a cry and I wanted to kiss her just like she’d told me she liked. Drunk or not, I remembered. Little, slow pecks. Just a bit of tongue. I wouldn’t screw it up. Her chin quivered as the rain pelted down. I’d actually forgotten it was raining until I saw it streaming down her perfect face. It was then that I realized she didn’t have on a bra and her nipples poked through the gray shirt beautifully. Damn.

My tongue darted out, running the length of my lips with simply the thought of wrapping them around those perfect pebbles. “Would you have sought out another client if they didn’t show?” I asked. “What?” “If one of your other clients didn’t show, would you track them down?” “I don’t know,” she said squeezing her eyes shut. “Yes you do. Tell me.”

Her eyes opened as her teeth pressed softly into her bottom lip. “No. I wouldn’t track them down.” This brought me pure satisfaction. “I’ll be there Wednesday.” She nodded. “What time?” I asked. “Four?” I nodded.

“See me before then. Please.”
 “I can’t Kieran…”
“Fine. Wednesday at four.” And I swear to God, I didn’t want her to go. I wanted her to stay with me…go home with me.

Todd and Wink were right: I was screwed.

The Dare by Rachel Van Dyken

From #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Rachel Van Dyken, comes the third book in the New York Time's Bestselling Bet Series...

Boring Beth Lynn has always lived up to her nickname... until she wakes up in a hotel bed next to a sexy as sin state senator she re-connected with at a wedding the previous night.

The biggest problem? She can't seem to remember anything about the night before except for crying into a box of cookies, and she's pretty sure Grandma Nadine slipped something in her drink. And what should have been a one night stand turns into a six day adventure when Grandma whisks them off to Hawaii to save them from the ensuing media firestorm.

Jace isn't looking for commitment -- he believes he made that clear when he left the wedding with Beth. Then again, he can't remember much of anything other than the way her skin felt beneath his hands. Now he's stuck with her at some lame couple's retreat and trying his hardest to fight the attraction only a woman like Beth could invoke.

He doesn't think it can get any worse.

But one spider attack... A donkey ride from hell... And an unfortunate episode with Viagra tea -- and there's one thing Jace knows for sure: He should never have agreed to Grandma Nadine's suggestion in the first place.

Because if this isn't paradise, and it isn't a vacation -- that only leaves one option.

Survival.

But to make it through alive... they might lose their hearts in the process.

“Beth!” Jace knocked on the door. “If you’re done freaking out, we need to go.” “Right.” I wiped my wet cheeks and clenched the dress in my hands. It wasn’t magic. If anything, it was just a reminder that I was exactly where I’d been when I’d graduated in 2000. A loser. A loser with a small rack who preferred math and science to Facebook. “Beth, I’m serious. It’s not looking good.” “Keep your pants on!” I yelled, irritated that he was making me hurry. With a curse, I pulled on the dress, put my wet hair in a quick pony tail, and opened the bathroom door. “What’s the big hurry?” Jace held up his phone. It said Grandma Nadine. “Hello!” a loud voice yelled. “Jace! Beth! Hurry! Grandma has this all figured out.” “Famous last words.” Jace nodded. “But we have no choice.” “No choice?” I repeated. “What? Is the mafia after us or
something?” “Worse.” “I highly doubt that.” “Look.” He pointed to the TV. Reporters were in front of a hotel, looking excited as hell. “The news?” I asked. “Why is that worse than—” “Special reports say the senator took a prostitute back to his room at midnight last night and has yet to check out! Which raises the question, has the senator truly put his murky past behind him? Sources close to the senator’s ex-fiancée say the cheating scandal from two years ago nearly destroyed him. One more scandal won’t bode well for the youngest senator in state history. Could a trust issue in his personal life have a reflection on his public one?” “That’s enough.” I grabbed the remote from Jace’s frozen hand and threw it onto the bed. Great. So not only had I lost my virginity to a politician, but now I was a prostitute. I reached for his cell phone and growled into it. “We’ll have words later.” Grandma snorted. “But get us out of here first.” “Say the magic words.” “Uh, please?” I nudged Jace out of his paralyzed state. “Not those words.” I closed my eyes and allowed visions of my calm and sterile office to bring back the peace into my body. That didn’t work. I needed to think about Vampire Diaries. Damon Salvatore. Damon Salvatore. Damon Salvatore. And happy place found! “I can’t read minds. What words do you want me to say?” Grandma chuckled. “Why, thank you, of course!” “For?” “How was he?” She giggled like a school girl. “Men with power seem to have a special type of—” “Thank you!” I all but shouted. “Now get us out of here.” “Roger.” The phone went dead. I looked to Jace for help, but he seemed to be fighting a losing battle with his tie as he tried to pull it from his neck. “Stop.” I swatted his hands away. “You’re going to hang yourself if you keep doing that.” He shrugged. “What?” I loosened the tie. “No snappy retort?”
“Not feeling snappy,” he said dryly. I slapped him. I never said I was good with emotions. “What the hell was that for?” “Singing Katy Perry.” I grinned. “Now snap to it, Mr. Senator. We’ve gotta make it out of this hotel without that skinny bitch reporting it on the evening news.” “Grandma?” “The reporter.” “You understand my confusion,” he added, just as someone knocked on the door. “Stay here.” “It feels like a bad movie,” I whispered to myself as I chewed the nail polish off my thumb. “Shit.” Jace looked through the peephole and then said shit about five more times before slowly opening the door. Why was he so upset? Why the hell would… “Aw, shit.” I repeated. Because there really wasn’t any other word that existed in the English language that would fit as well. So I repeated it again. As did Jace. Grandma shrugged and pulled off her sunglasses. “Let the fun begin!”

I got to chat with Rachel a little bit about our beloved Grandma Nadine and her hijinks and spunky personality.

B: She is the glue and the person who keeps us hopping throughout The Bet Series -let’s talk about the evil genius that is Grandma Nadine shall we?  What made you write a book about a crazy matchmaking grandma?
R: Honestly my real grandma says the most ridiculously funny things that I thought I REALLY  need to put this into a book, at first i was just going to steal some of the stuff she said but in the end it was way too funny  not to cast her as the main character.

B: Is Grandma Nadine based off of someone in real life?
R: YES ;) My real Grandma Nadine who is in fact, that crazy ;) She's hilarious, I actually take notes when Im with her, she gets mad whenever I take out my cell phone because she knows Im typing vigorously trying to keep up with whatever she just got through saying.

B: What was the reaction of your own Grandma Nadine to The Bet’s GNadine?
R: Grandma LOVES it she feels like a celebrity and has specifically requested that "When" right "WHEN" the book gets made into a movie she would like to have Betty White play her b/c "the rest of the golden girls are dead" yup those were her exact words.

B: A lot of your books feature a meddling grandmother.  What is it about grandmother that people really connect to? Especially for you.
R: I think it really tugs at the heart strings to have a meddlesome family member who cares so much, maybe too much, to let you go at life alone. Theres something so endearing about that.

B: In The Dare, we find out that grandma has quite the past. She is a woman with many hats.  Which is the easier part of writing about Grandma Nadine? Her past or her meddling with her family.
R: I think it's easier to write about her meddling with the family and then throw in tid bits from her past, those are usually the funny one liners that you can't un read or un see ;)

B: Hopefully this isn’t the end of Grandma Nadine right?
R: Nope...it's not the end. ;) She wouldn't let me!

The Bet Series is one of the most fun series out there. It keeps you crying with laughter and swooning from all the romance and hunky alpha guys who sweep you off your feet.

The Dare is the third in The Bets series and for me, my favorite (so far).

Grandma Nadine is back up to her antics with trying her matchmaking skills on Jace and Beth.

Hijinks ensue as always and I loved every minute of the book. Jace and Beth together are fun. And not only do we get Grandma Nadine again, but Kacey, Travis, Char and Jake all tag along for the fun too.
5 Stars!

Rusty Nailed by Alice Clayton

In this sequel to Wallbanger, the second book in the Cocktail series, fan favorites Caroline and Simon negotiate the rollercoaster of their new relationship while house-sitting in San Francisco.

Playing house was never so much fun—or so confusing. With her boss on her honeymoon, Caroline’s working crazy long hours to keep the interior design company running—especially since she’s also the lead designer for the renovation of a gorgeous old hotel on Sausalito. So with her hotshot photographer boyfriend gallivanting all over the world for his job, she and Simon are heavy-duty into “absence makes the heart grow fonder” mode. Neither has any complaints about the great reunion sex, though!

Then Simon decides he’s tired of so much traveling, and he’s suddenly home more. A lot more. And wanting Caroline home more, too. Though their friends’ romantic lives provide plenty of welcome distraction, eventually Caroline and Simon have to sort their relationship out. Neither wants “out of sight, out of mind,” but can they create their own happy mid-ground cliché?

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18775203-rusty-nailed

My Simon (and Caroline) are back! I was a little skeptical of the continuing saga of my Wallbanger and Miss Caroline. I loved the ending of Wallbanger. I thought they got their HEA. And in the past I have been disappointed with some of my favorite couples all of a sudden coming back into my life after they rode into the sunset and now...true life problems! WHAT??? I had this book for at least two weeks... hemming and hawing over whether I wanted to go down this road with Simon and Caroline, tainting my enduring love for the two of them.

Now that being said, although this is ultimately about Simon and Caroline, there is a lot of our secondary characters story woven within the story making this a much easier ride for me. This wasn't the continual laugh that I got thru Wallbanger, but I still had quite a few laugh out loud moments, that had my husband giving me funny looks from across the bed.

I loved that a majority of the tension in the book was not really with Simon and Caroline but with Neil and Sophia and their friend's reaction to their hijinks.

I thought it portrayed a true to life relationship, as they wove their way through the new adventures their relationship was taking them. We get to finally peak into Simon's life and see just how strong both he and Caroline are.

So for that I give Rusty Nailed a solid 4 stars! I can't wait for the rest of the Cocktail Collection books and my love for Alice has grown even more <3

The first night after Caroline moves into her fantastic new San Francisco apartment, she realizes she's gaining an intimate knowledge of her new neighbor's nocturnal adventures. Thanks to paper-thin walls and the guy's athletic prowess, she can hear not just his bed banging against the wall but the ecstatic response of what seems (as loud night after loud night goes by) like an endless parade of women. And since Caroline is currently on a self-imposed dating hiatus, and her neighbor is clearly lethally attractive to women, she finds her fantasies keep her awake even longer than the noise. So when the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts Simon Parker, her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. The tension between them is as thick as the walls are thin, and the results just as mixed. Suddenly, Caroline is finding she may have discovered a whole new definition of neighborly...

In a delicious mix of silly and steamy, Alice Clayton dishes out a hot and hilarious tale of exasperation at first sight...
